To be qualified for the diploma, students must successfully finish the three aspects of the core in addition to the topics chosen from each group. The following are the complementing aspects that make up the heart of the IBDP:

Theory of Knowledge

A 100-hour interdisciplinary course explores knowledge questions across the six subject groups to encourage learners to develop critical thinking skills, the spirit of purposeful inquiry as well as intellectual courage and understanding of diverse perspectives.

Creativity, Action, Service (CAS)

A 150-hour extensive range of activities that students pursue along with academics. ‘Creativity’ for creative thinking and expression, while ‘Activity’ calls for physical exertion and endurance. ‘Service’ consists of unpaid and voluntary exchanges through which students can meet a range of learning outcomes.

Extended Essay

To develop coherent & compelling analysis and argumentation backed up by evidence from research, students are guided by the supervisors for an extended and self-directed research exploration that culminates in a 4000-word research paper.
